Obituary of Russell Gene Vickers

Russell Gene Vickers age 88 of Venice, Florida went to be with the lord on Sunday July 17,2022.

Russ was born in Dayton, Ohio to Jessie and Fannie Vickers in 1934. Russ was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He loved his hobbies of being a musician in the rock band “The Rockets,” restoring and working on classic cars with his great friends Curt and Gary, spending Sunday afternoons watching #3 Dale Earnhardt and being a Deacon of his Church. Russ’s most cherished moments of his life was making memories with his family and friends.

Russ married the Love of his life Judy in 1962. Through almost 60 years of marriage, they created a tremendous and loving family, one filled with many children and many, many grandchildren.  Russ was preceded in death by his loving parents Jessie and Fannie, Brother’s Sid and Andy, His Sister Sue, Son’s Scott, and Brett and Son-in-law Dave.  Russ is survived by his Wife Judy, Brother Jack, Sister-in-laws Paula and Leonna, Daughters Ronnie (Mike) Griggs, Kelly (Brent), Stacy (Chris) Getter.  To his Grandchildren and some children, he was Papaw or Paps.  Grandchildren: Holly (Pootie), Josh, Jonathan, Jordan, Alyssa, Kyle (Handsome Man), Tiffanee (Tiffers), Zach (Zach Attack), Madi (Pumpkin’ Girl), Kiki (Smiley Girl), Jacob, Chase (Chaser) and Rob.  Great Grandchildren: Hayley, Mason, Wyatt, Hayden, Britten, Bannon, Preston, Gabriel, Jaxson, Everlee, James, Noah, Paislee, Jagger, Felicia, Sandy, Olivia, Parker, Aaron and one yet to be named!  Russ leaves behind many, many nieces, nephews family and beloved friends.

Services to be held on Thursday August 11, 2022, at 12:30 at Shining Light Church 3675 Clark Rd Sarasota, Fl. 34233 presided over by Pastor Stephen Schlabach.
