Obituary of Michael Patrick Irwin

Michael Patrick Irwin of Sarasota, formerly of Williamsville, NY passed away at home on February 22, 2023. He was surrounded by his wife of over fifty years, Sharon, and his five children: Brendan, Michael (Rachel), Matthew (Camila), Courtney, and Ryan (Fabiana). He is also survived by seventeen adoring grandchildren; sisters Ann, Sheila and Mary Pat, and brother, William.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Virginia Irwin, and two brothers, Timothy and Christopher.  

He enrolled in the Navy after high school and then went on to graduate from the Culinary Institute of America. He then launched into a career in the hotel and restaurant business that spanned over four decades.

He was a devoted husband and father who was known for his deep faith, quick wit, and sound advice. A true family man, he enjoyed a good cup of coffee, riding his Harley, cooking a good meal, lounging in the recliner with his grandkids, rooting for his Yankees, and being “early and not late”.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Dr. Andrew Marple’s office as well as to TideWell Hospice for the compassionate care they provided over the past year. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Incarnation Catholic Church, Sarasota, Florida on March 22 at 9:30 am with private interment to follow at Sarasota National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society at Incarnation Catholic Church, 2929 Bee Ridge Rd. Sarasota, FL 34239.
